What is your favorite memory of being part of UNCW’s Swimming & Diving program?
My favorite memories from being on the team go beyond the conference championship wins. The summers in Wilmington training and working with teammates was truly special. I loved the ocean swims and the chance to enjoy Wrightsville and the beach town atmosphere in the summer. We worked really hard during those months, and I think that made a big difference when championship season came around.
How has your experience as part of UNCW’s Swimming & Diving program impacted or influenced your life?
Swimming has shaped so much of who I am today. It gave me my closest friends and taught me what it means to work hard over time, that real progress is a marathon, not a sprint.
What have you been up to since your days on the UNCW pool deck?
Since graduating from UNCW, I’ve been getting used to full-time work and exploring D.C.. I’ve been traveling when I can and love visiting my former teammates in all the new cities they’ve moved to. Now that I’ve stopped swimming, I’ve been finding new ways to stay active. I love trying different workout classes, especially cycling.
Favorite stomping grounds from your time at UNCW?
There are so many great spots! Red Dogs is a classic, my class always loved Dockside, and I’m a big fan of Poe’s Tavern — not to mention Hillsdale!
Favorite UNCW Swimming & Diving slogan or cheer?
The women’s team cheer (Pump it up!) and Coach Bobby’s famous “Your call!” slogan will always be my favorites.
Parting advice for current UNCW Swimmers and Divers and/or recent alumni?
My advice is to take advantage of every opportunity. After college, you’ll never have another experience quite like being on a team, especially one like UNCW’s. It goes by fast, so don’t rush it. Enjoy the time with your teammates, keep working hard, and have fun along the way.
