What is your favorite memory of being part of UNCW’s Swimming & Diving program?
It’s tough to pick just one. One of my favorite moments was junior year conference, 2023, when Coach Bobby pulled the women’s team into a huddle on deck and shared that we had won it all. I will truly never forget the pride, joy, and excitement I felt in that moment. However, to be honest, my real answer is the little things: the intramural and dual meets, the beach practices, bus rides, just being a part of one team.
How has your experience as part of UNCW’s Swimming & Diving program impacted or influenced your life?
Wow, how has it not? I do not think I would be the same individual I am today without this program. It taught me the importance of discipline over motivation, the power of your thoughts controlling your actions, the effect your body language has, what true leadership means, and so much more. In all, it taught me that life is a marathon, not a sprint. To work towards something greater than yourself is an honor.
What have you been up to since your days on the UNCW pool deck?
After graduating, I accepted a job with Nestlé and moved to Dallas, Texas, to work as a sales representative. My days are filled with selling chocolate chips and analyzing a wild array of products for my company. However, last year, I realized I still had some extra love to give to the sport of swimming and decided to head coach at a high school and middle school here in Dallas. During that time, I brought 2 swimmers to state and one placed 3rd, respectively. This year, I refocused towards my sales job and now bridge the gap between the Starbucks division and Premium Waters division for my team. Outside of work, I am currently training for the Houston Marathon as well as supporting my friends and family.
Favorite stomping grounds from your time at UNCW?
On campus, it had to be Dubs. But specifically freshman year when they had the breakfast burrito. Off campus, it’s going to be Islands or Blue Surf. Not even inflation can affect the price of those tacos!
Favorite UNCW Swimming & Diving slogan or cheer?
It would be crazy of me not to say W2W, considering I was present during the creation of the all-encompassing slogan. However, I don’t think there’s a better feeling than chanting SEA-SEA- SEA- SEAHAWK back to your team.
Parting advice for current UNCW Swimmers and Divers and/or recent alumni?
For any current or past swimmers, master the art of taking it one day at a time. When things seem big, start small. Ask yourself, “What is the next best thing I can do for myself and my team?” And I promise, it will all work out. And hey, even if it doesn’t, you’re still a part of one of the most special organizations in the country, (or maybe the world, but I think I am biased). Do not take that for granted.
